Secret revealed about Derren Browns mental card trick
The first mental shape projection he forms is the shape of a diamond using his hands. He also suggests a bright and vivid colour. Of course red is bright and vivid.
Once you have that in your mind, he then uses his fingers and words to suggest the number three. He uses the following suggestions:
- He shapes his fingers into a three.
- He uses the words “The ‘little‘ number,” to imply a low number.
- He them emphasises this with “the number ‘low‘ down in the corner.” Again using the word ‘low’ implies a low number.
- He also asks you to picture the numbers down the middle, emphasising this with boom, boom, boom (i.e. three ‘booms’), whilst at the same time drawing invisible dots on the screen.
This is a very simply mentalism shape projection trick. Plus the suggestions are not very subtle and quite obvious, especially once you know what to look for. However, if you’re new to mentalism and looking to learn to become a mentalist, you need to start somewhere.
